Conservative Movies

I hate how people who have no appreciation for art attack it for daring to have a message. Anyone who claims that art should strive for nothing more than entertainment of the masses is a disgraceful individual. Consider for a moment this headline from the Los Angeles Times: "The Trouble with Oscar: Art trumps commerce, and the academy finds itself more out of step than ever."

Why are there people stupid enough to connect with these ranting lunatics? Why do so many people feel pride in the fact that they're ignorant neanderthals with no taste? And why do the vast majority of them identify themselves as "conservative"?

There's a major conservative website that recently released a list of the ten best "conservative" movies of the year. Besides consisting of ridiculous bull@!$%# like "The Island", I found the following description of "Batman Begins" particularly jarring:

"As Batman struggles to understand the nature of evil and the difference between justice and revenge, he confronts his most deadly challenge..."

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not an excellent description of Steven Spielberg's "Munich"?

Oh wait, I forgot. Conservatives launched a multi-million dollar campaign to ensure that as few people would see that movie as possible. After all, it attempted to be a piece of art with a "message".

I think that it is a shame that people without an independent thought in their brains insist on labelling themselves as "conservatives." Some of the most brilliant and interesting people I know are conservatives - true conservatives. These people who come out and spout intolerance and close-mindedness may be conservative, they may be Republicans or Democrats or liberals. They need to start calling themselves what they really are - "Ignorant Idiots."

I guess what those of us who can actually use our brains should go out and counteract all of their negativity by supporting the arts in all of their controversy and brilliance.

This article doesn't back what the seeder is spitting here. Your venom, however, does describe the "us vs. them" polarization that dirties me whenever I agree with either liberals or conservatives. This venom is the wedge between us and it propped up by both sides.
So basically, Ilyag is mad because of a conspiracy of opposition to "Munich." This movie is controversial even among Jews. People please quit demanding "support" for this, that or the other. A lack of agreement with someone is not a moral crime.

While I agree with the point you are making in your article, I would just like to point out that one of the first things you learn in film school is that movies are primarily entertainment and are created to make money. Yes, they can have a political message and that's perfectly fine. Hell, I might not even agree with the message its trying to say. But a films primary goal is to generate cash.

No, Tobsterius. The film INDUSTRY's primary goal is to make money. The people who finance movies are in it for the money. The corporations that are in the industry want to make money. Artists? They're doing it for artistic expression. Directors and writers, other than wanting to make some money, are doing it because they love creating films, and are therefore artists.

If the audience expects of movies nothing more than what the movie INDUSTRY expects of movies, then the movie audience is a pathetic rabble of neanderthals.
